Typical rates are on ChargePoint stations are one to two dollars an hour plus a minimum payment if applicable. If you sign up for a ChargePoint account online, you can preload your account and purchase a key tag for less than ten dollars that you can scan to unlock the charging station and start charging.
Be sure to check the station to see how they handle billing after your vehicle is fully charged. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, most electric car drivers do more than 80-percent of their car charging at home. Charging in your own garage or household outlet is usually the most cost-effective way to charge your vehicle. Residential electricity rates are usually lower at nighttime which is when you would be charging your vehicle, especially if you have a Level 1 charger. A Level 1 charger provides charging through a regular 120 volt AC plug and adds about two to five miles per hour of charging. A Level 2 charger is much faster because it uses a 240-volt AC plug and adds 10-60-miles per hour. For your convenience, it might be worth it to upgrade to a Level 2 charger and take advantage of special incentives that can make the professional installation free or low-cost.
